Day 9

Midnight at the oasis (Casa Eric) . . .

Well, sunset actually . . .

Mucho trabajo delicato hyer . . .

Mr 'Fretless Bass' had another easy day. No frets and consequently no fretboard inlays . . .  (makes for a dodgy sound with no frets). But he managed to find a way to get a symbol high on the fretboard out of the danger zone . .

Eric had several changes of heart about the style of bass he wanted to build . . .

Very large?

Or very small?

Seemed pretty obvious that an appropriate emblem at the octave, rather than a big dot, should be a lizard. Sounds great, but cutting a lizard from sea shell is tricky, Do you know how many toes a lizard has?

If that was hard, cutting the recess in the fretboard of exactly the same size was harder. Note the finger (toe?) gesture! One angry lizard . . .

We did that after a big lunch at Can Forn (great restaurant near the workshop) washed down with copious amounts of vino rosado and blanco and topped off with several Hierbas Ibicencas con hielo (a local cognac-like digestif made with the local 'herb', frigola. Unusual taste, but seems to perform the expected!).

We continued to try all the guitars that the professor had made, and my favourite sound is the Toro Research. Bodywork design is a little naff but it sounds great. If mine sounds anything like this, I will be a very happy man . . .

Fret theory . . .

In case the last geography lesson wasn't enough, here is another clue . . .

Oh! And this is the team T-Shirt design . .

Hasta mas tarde!
